Comics have become a great medium to keep older franchises alive, as it can deliver cost-effective storytelling for a built-in fan base, without the chains of production costs or actor availability.  Dark Horse is probably the most successful publisher in this regards, doing great justice to the Star Wars franchise.  When came the time to officially continue Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer series in comic form, Whedon went with them, and they quickly became one of the top licensed properties in comics.

Below you will find our complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel comic book reading order, aiding you in jumping between the various series.

What Makes the Cut

Though in numbers this series pales in comparison to other decades-old comic series, this franchise needs its own reading order list as not all comics are considered canon.  Dark Horse began publishing Buffy comics when the series was still on air, and most of those stories are considered non-canonical.  Furthermore, IDW’s Angel series is not completely considered canon, though many do include the first run of that series, which was written with input from Joss Whedon himself.
